This publication provides a concise compilation of selected rules in the Eurocode 8, together with relevant Cyprus National Annex, that relate to the design of common forms of concrete building structure in the South Europe. Rules from EN 1998-1-1 for globalanalysis, regularity criteria, type of analysis and verification checks are presented. Detail design rules for concrete beam, column and shear wall, from EN 1998-1-1 and EN1992-1-1 are presented. This guide covers the design of orthodox members in concrete frames. It does not cover design rules for steel frames. Certain practical limitations are given to the scope.

Concrete Pavement Design

 

 

A pavement project may be envisioned as a three-link chain, consisting of materials, design, and construction. The weakest linkgoverns the performance of the system - therefore engineers must be knowledgeable about all three aspects as well as their interactions. Concrete Pavement Design, Construction, and Performance is organized in much the same way as a pavementconstruction project. First, different alternatives for concrete pavement solutions are outlined and the desired performance and behavior parameters are identified. Next, appropriate materials are selected and the desired concrete proportions determined. Once the materials are known the design can be completed. Finally, the necessary construction steps for translating the design into a durable facility are provided. Pavement management, maintenance, rehabilitation, and overlays are also addressed.
